Oregon to play in Bahamas

EUGENE, Ore. — The Oregon men's basketball team will be heading to the Bahamas in August to play five games on a foreign tour, head coach Ernie Kent announced Tuesday.

The Ducks will play the five exhibition contests the week of Aug. 20-26 in Nassau versus Bahamian club teams.

As permitted by the NCAA, the returning members from the 2005-06 squad will reconvene in Eugene for 10 days of practice beginning on approximately Aug. 7. The Ducks are scheduled to depart for the Bahamas on Aug. 18 and return to Oregon on Aug. 27.

The Ducks' touring squad will feature their top seven scorers from last season's team that went 15-18. The returning players expected to participate in the foreign tour include seniors-to-be Aaron Brooks, Ivan Johnson, Adrian Stelly and Adam Zahn, and juniors-to-be Malik Hairston, Maarty Leunen, Chamberlain Oguchi, Ray Schafer and Bryce Taylor.

Also eligible for the foreign tour are junior Mitch Platt, who redshirted the 2005-06 season as he recovered from a pair of foot surgeries, as well as sophomore Churchill Odia, who redshirted last year in accordance with NCAA rules after transferring from Xavier.

Oregon's three incoming freshmen, Joevan Catron, LeKendric Longmire and Tajuan Porter are not eligible for the foreign tour. Jordan Kent, who will be a redshirt senior next fall, will be in camp with the Duck football team.
