Evaluation Goes Both Ways

Kirkland (Wash.) tight end/defensive end Chris Izbicki said he is looking for a school where he can get a good education which is preferably close to home. He claims to have written offers from Stanford, Washington, Washington State, Oregon State, Arizona State and Oregon.

Chris Izbicki Profile

"Stanford and Washington are probably at the top of my list right now," said Izbicki, of Lake Washington High School. I want to play in the Pac-10 and stay close to home. Academics are really big for me too.

"I really like Washington. They were the first to offer me, about two weeks after signing day. I really like Coach (Tyrone) Willingham a lot. Also, they didn't take a tight end in 2006 so I know I'd have a good chance at starting early.

"I'm considering Stanford too. My parents really want me to go there. They are one of the top schools in the country and a degree from there is like no other. I really like their facilities too. I think their program is getting stronger every year and it's the Pac-10 too.

Izbicki said Arizona State and Oregon are his latest offers. "I got my offer from Arizona State two weeks ago. My coach called me into his office and told me that they had offered. Then I got a text-message from Coach (Brent) Myers telling me that I had the offer. I really like him. He told me I'd fit in perfectly to their offense.

"I also got an offer from Oregon recently," he said. "Coach (Neal) Zoumboukos was the first coach to call me on May 1. He told me he wants me to come to camp so I can have the chance to evaluate him since he's already evaluated me. I'm hoping to get down there soon."

Izbicki said he is also being recruited by Michigan, Notre Dame, Arizona and USC. "I've heard from all those schools, mainly by mail. I haven't heard much from Notre Dame lately.

"I'm a really good blocker. I'm strong at running routes. My coaches said I need to work on going after the play is over. Sometimes I tend not to go all out if they play is across the field or if it's already down."

Final junior (4-5) stats: 25 receptions/215 yards/two TDs; 58 tackles/31 solo/two sacks; bench: 300/squat:450

Izbicki reports a 3.6 core GPA and is awaiting May 1 SAT results.
