Nice and Slow

Phoenix offensive lineman Javario Burkes (6-6, 320, 5.3) said he has about 34 scholarship offers with his latest coming on Wednesday from Oklahoma. He denies any favorites--but says that Oregon State, Oregon, Georgia and Tennessee are recruiting him the hardest.

Javario Burkes Profile

"This summer I plan to really narrow things down and take a look at which schools I want to visit in the fall," said Burkes, from Moon Valley High School. "I don't have any favorites right now and just want to take things nice and slow. I didn't really watch football until my sophomore year, so there was never a team I really followed.

"I just want to play for a good program in a nice environment. I don't care if it's a big city or a small town. I was born in Montgomery, Alabama and have lived in Arizona for 11 years. I don't have a location preference.

"I want to play for a coach that is like my high school coach. A guy that is very hands on and who knows how to teach the game."

Some of the schools that Burkes says have offered him are Nebraska, Oregon, Oregon State, Washington, Georgia, Tennessee, Michigan, USC, Washington State, Arizona State, Arizona and Oklahoma.

He reports a 2.6 GPA, but has not taken the SAT yet.
