Priority one for Oregon's next recruiting class is to sign several premier running backs. Many believe that Onterrio Smith is a likely first-round draft choice and will throw his hat into the NFL ring if he has a productive junior season, leaving the Ducks with some very large shoes to fill. Oregon has extended early offers to a handful of running backs and this one could be the best.
The player is Lynell Hamilton, a 6-1, 193, 4.4 running back from Edison High School in Stockton (CA). He already has fielded over 15 offers that include Colorado, Michigan, Miami, Nebraska, Washington and Oregon. Lynell will be one of the heaviest recruited players in California this year and may be the top running back in the West.
Last season Hamilton rushed for 1,200 yards and 18 touchdowns, earning him All-League and All-Area honors. TheInsiders.com network gives Lynell 4-stars and they rank him as the #12 running back prospect in the country. He also attended the University of Nevada-Reno summer football camp where he was named MVP.
Hamilton is known to be a big Nebraska fan, but he has said that he intends to take all five of his trips before making a decision. The rumor is that he is giving Oregon a hard look and the Ducks may get an official visit. Lynell is also an excellent student with a reported 3.5 GPA.
