Ducks to Host Weightlifting Competition

EUGENE — Some of the strongest athletes in the western United States will be present when the University of Oregon's intercollegiate strength and conditioning program hosts the 15th annual Weightlifting Classic Saturday, June 3rd, in the Casanova Center weight room.

International, national and Olympic competitors will be present for the competition, which will take place from about 11 a.m. through 2:30 p.m. In addition, University of Oregon athletes who will compete include football player Jon Pope, who is tied for fifth on the football program's career list in the power clean (374 lbs.) and the Ducks' strongest linebacker of all time, as well as women's soccer standout Nicole Garbin, who ranks second in career goals scored and is the program's all-time assists leader.

The total score of the competition will be awarded based on the aggregate weight from two lifts (snatch as well as clean and jerk). Weigh-ins for the competition will take place from 9-10 a.m. on the first floor of the Casanova Center.

Admission to the event is free of charge.
