Planning on a Big Year

California free safety Todd Doxey (6-1, 170, 4.6), from Hoover High School in San Diego, favors UCLA just slightly over Arizona State, USC (camp), Oregon (recruiting the hardest), California and Arizona. Of those, only the Ducks have offered, as well as Oregon State (latest to offer--a week ago), San Diego State (recruiting the hardest, first to offer), Colorado State and Boise State.

Todd Doxey Profile

"I like the environment at UCLA and they have a young secondary," said Doxey, a four-star prospect. "It's close to home too--only a little over two hours. They've shown interest, but I don't really know if they'll be offering or not.

"ASU is a very good program. They want me to take a trip out there and are very friendly to me. It's about a six hour drive out there, so that's good too.

"USC is well-coached individually," he said. "I could tell that at their camp. They have kept in touch with text messages and I've called them. They are already pretty deep in the secondary and already have a safety committed (Oaks Christian's Marshall Jones). I probably won't visit there officially because of that.

"I've never visited the state of Oregon but the Ducks are a good football program and I really want to play in the Pac-10.

"I think I'll officially visit UCLA, ASU, Oregon, Cal and maybe Arizona. But I won't be making any decisions about committing until after my senior season. I'd like to see what other offers I come up with. I plan on having an incredible senior year.

"I've never played strong safety, always free. I can hit and read defenses. I know what's gonna happen before it does. I just have good instincts.

"I could improve my size and speed," Doxey said. "I need to gain more weight."

Final senior season stats: 97 tackles/5 interceptions; 41 rec/841 yards/9 TDs

Doxey reports a 3.3 core GPA and a 900 SAT.
