All About the Visit

Arizona offensive lineman Javario Burkes (6-6, 312, 5.4), from Moon Valley High School in Phoenix, denies a favorite. He said his top six include Nebraska, Georgia, Tennessee, Oregon, Oregon State and USC. These schools are among his 42 offers.

"Nebraska seems like a pretty good school for me. I take my first visit there unofficially at the end of this month (July)--around the 28 or 29. They stand out because they offered me early and they are recruiting me pretty hard right now," Burkes said.

"Georgia was actually my first offer. They have a pretty good football program. It's one of those schools you hear is top-ranked for the past couple years. I probably won't get to visit until my official visit in the season, but I love what I know of Georgia.

"Tennessee was also one of the first schools to recruit me and offer me. I remember things like that. They have a high-powered football program that's pretty decent," he said.

"I've heard Oregon is in a great location where the weather is perfect, and they're facilities are super nice. Coaches say that the program is going to be on the rise in the years to come.

"Oregon State's assistant head coach, Mike Cavanaugh, is really calm and mellow. I know a player from St. Mary's High School in town, Keaton Kristick, who is going to Oregon State this year, and he says lots of good things about the Beavers.

"USC has been a powerhouse program for that past three or four years. Coach (Pete) Carroll came to my school to watch our spring practice. I went to a Nike Combine at USC in the beginning of the summer, and the campus looked real nice. Carroll seems really down-to-earth," he said.

"Of course, I'm looking for a good football program. It's not so much that they have to win all the time, but work really hard to win at least some of the time. I'll know if I feel comfortable with the school environment and the team when I visit."

"I do best at pass protection blocking. I want to work on not taking plays off to rest," Burkes said. "I want to make an after-season commitment so I can weigh out my options and take official visits, because I haven't been to most of the schools."

Burkes bench presses 275, squats 405 and vertically jumps 27".

He reports a 2.6 core GPA and takes his SAT on October 4.
