Ducks Face Big XII Challenge in Papé Jam

EUGENE, Ore. — The Papé Jam will be a Pac-10/Big XII challenge with the Nebraska men and the Colorado women squaring off against Oregon in the ninth annual college basketball doubleheader. This year's event will take place on Saturday, Dec. 9 and, as always, will be played at the Rose Garden in Portland, Ore.

The 2006 Jam will mark the first time two visiting teams from the same conference will participate in the event. Nebraska will be the second Big XII Conference men's team to play in the Jam, following Kansas in 2002, while Colorado will be the first women's Big XII team to appear in the Jam.

Nebraska's men were 19-14 last season under coach Barry Collier and advanced to the semifinals of the Big XII tournament. Following that conference tournament run, Nebraska received a bid to the National Invitation Tournament, which marked the Huskers' second NIT appearance in three seasons. Oregon and Nebraska have met nine times on the basketball court, with the Huskers holding a 6-3 series edge. The two schools last played during the 1987-88 season when Nebraska took a 67-62 decision Dec. 12 at McArthur Court.

The Colorado women are coming off a 9-21 campaign in coach Kathy McConnell-Miller's first year at the helm and return nine players from last year's roster, including their top two scorers. One of CU's losses in 2005-06 came at the hands of the Ducks, 72-64, on Dec. 30 in Boulder. UO holds a 7-3 edge in 10 all-time meetings against the Buffaloes and are 4-0 on Oregon soil.

The Duck women are 8-0 all-time at the Papé Jam, including last year's 102-36 win over Prairie View A&M.

Oregon's men suffered their first setback in eight Papé Jam games last season, falling 89-59 to No. 11 Illinois on Dec. 10.

The Duck men are expected to return the game with Nebraska next season at a neutral site.

Tickets for the 2006 Papé Jam will go on sale in October.
