NFL Duck Summary: Pre Season Week 1

The NFL played the first exhibition games of the 2006 season this last week. There are 28 former Ducks that have signed contracts. How did they do?

A number of former Ducks are now Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins dropped their first pre-season outing to the Jacksonville Jaguars, 31-26. Dolphin quarterback Joey Harrington had a good outing for Miami by going 10-for-19, 99 yards and a touchdown. He also fumbled twice, turning the ball over once. His new teammate, wide receiver Jason Willis caught three balls for 45 yards including one touchdown reception. Another of Harrington's former targets at Oregon, tight end Justin Peelle had two catches for 21 yards. Meanwhile on the other side of the field, tight end George Wrighster had two catches for 55 yards with one touchdown catch that covered 51 yards.

Cincinnati Bengals' rookie Terrence Whitehead rushed for 16 yards on six carries in a 19-3 Bengal victory over the Washington Redskins. Rashad Bauman had one tackle for Cincinnati.

The first game out for Reuben Droughns and the Cleveland Browns was against the defending Super Bowl Champions Pittsburgh Steelers. Droughns had four carries for 21 yards and caught a pass for seven yards as the Browns fell to the Steelers, 20-7.

An injury sidelined defensive end Devan Long from playing for the Carolina Panthers against the Buffalo Bills. The Panthers won the contest 14-13.

Linebacker Peter Sirmon had a tackle for the Tennessee Titans in the 19-16 losing effort against the New Orleans Saints. Saints quarterback Jason Fife did not play in the game.

The New York Jets lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 16-3, but Jet's quarterback Kellen Clemens was 10-for-14 and 92 yards while sharing playing time with two other quarterbacks. Buc's punter Josh Bidwell had one punt for 43 yards. Meanwhile cornerback Justin Phinisee, linebackers Anthony Trucks and Wesly Mallard all saw action on the field for Tampa Bay.

Wide receiver Samie Parker started for the Kansas City Chiefs but did not catch a pass in the 24-14 loss to the Houston Texans. Chief's defensive tackle Junior Siavii also missed the game because of a knee problem.

The leading receiver for the Baltimore Ravens against the New York Giants was former Duck, Demetrius Williams. Williams had three catches for 43 yards with a long of 23. Williams fellow rookie teammate defensive tackle Haloti Ngata played in the game that was won by the Giants, 17-16.

Running back Maurice Morris had 10 carries for 25 yards and a pass reception for two yards for the Seattle Seahawks. The Seahawks lost to the Dallas Cowboys 13-3. Seattle's wide receiver Keenan Howry did not play.

The New England Patriots met the Atlanta Falcons and offensive guard Nicholas Steitz saw action for the Patriots. The Falcons won the contest 26-23.

A.J. Feeley returned to the field after missing last season for the San Diego Chargers. Feeley was 5-for-10 for 49 yards in the Chargers' 17-3 win over the Green Bay Packers. Feeley also fumbled once. Defensive end Igor Olshansky started for the Chargers.

Three former Ducks all saw action for the San Francisco 49ers against the Chicago Bears. Offensive lineman Adam Snyder, safety Keith Lewis and wide receiver Marcus Maxwell played in the game. Bears' tight end Timothy Day did not play in the game.
