Keeping the Status Quo

Three-star wide receiver Michael Calvin (6-2, 195, 4.5) from San Leandro (Calif.) opens his senior football season tomorrow night (Sept. 8) against Fremont Dublin High School.

Calvin still favors Cal slightly over Oregon, USC, UCLA and Utah. He has offers from Cal, Oregon and Utah, as well as San Jose State and Oregon State. "USC and UCLA have both told me that they want to see some film from my first few games to see how I've improved over the summer," Calvin said.

He said that Cal is recruiting him the hardest. "They touch base with me a lot and let me know about how their practices go and how all the players are doing," Calvin said. "I was surprised by their loss to Tennessee. I really thought Cal was going to go in there and show them what's up, but Tennessee brought their 'A' game.

"I'm not too worried about how well these teams do this year," Calvin said. "I want to see what the recruiting class looks like because these are the guys I'm gonna be playing with."

Calvin is currently working on scheduling a visit to Oregon in October. "We're just trying to find the right weekend for me to fly up," Calvin said. "So far the only school I've been to is Cal and that's why they are my top choice."

He plans to attend the San Jose State/Stanford game this weekend.

"I want to take all of my visits and decide after that," Calvin said. "I really want to compare and contrast everything."

He reports a 2.9 GPA and a 1150 SAT score. He will be taking the SAT again on October 14.
