Everson Griffen Profile
"Oh, the Trojans have a slight lead," Griffen said. "When I was down there (at camp), I really felt the energy, " said Griffen. "I mean the coaches were really hyped! If you weren't ready to go--they were gonna get you going! They are always pumped up. That's what gives them the edge. Also, I definitely prefer the weather in Cali, compared to Arizona's heat.
"Pete Carroll came to my game last weekend against Cactus High (Peoria). We played them at home and I think I played pretty well. They were the No. 1 team in the state and we beat them 28-7. Now, we are ranked No. 3.
"I've been talking to Notre Dame coach (Jappy) Oliver (defensive line) a lot," said Scout.com's No. 1 defensive end prospect from Agua Fria Union High School in Avondale. "We're trying to set up a visit soon. Notre Dame is definitely a close second for me, because I love the team," said Griffen. "But, I've never been there.
"As far as UCLA, I feel like their program is on the rise," he emphasized. "They are getting some really good recruits--so they'll have a lot of help. I also like the coaching staff at UCLA, especially Dino Babers (running backs). He's upfront.
"I like the program at Oklahoma," says Griffen. "I try to watch all of their games on TV. Really, I try to watch every game I can. When Saturday comes around I just keep flipping channels to catch a piece of all of them," said Griffen. "I admire Bob Stoops' coaching style. He's very aggressive. They go to the ball.
"Oregon is also one of my favorites since I'm a defensive person," he said "I like the defenses they run, but it's another place I've never been.
"I'm also still kind of looking at Arizona too. They were the first school to show me love and I also like their coaches. And I also went to the Arizona State/Nevada game. ASU blew them out. I don't know who I'd choose between ASU and Arizona. I just don't know."
Griffen's mother, Sabrina Scott, believes her son will make up his mind soon after the football season. "I don't have any preference for him. Wherever he goes, I am behind him," she said. Griffen believes he'll announce before his birthday on December 22. "I'll decide around then, or maybe earlier."
Current three game (3-0) stats: 200+ rushing yards/six TDs as a fullback; 28 tackles/seven sacks
Griffen reports a 3.3 core GPA and an 840 SAT.
