Down to Two

Three-star tight end David Paulson (6-4, 230, 4.8) from Auburn Riverside (Wash.) has already taken official visits to California (Sept. 22) and Oregon (Sept. 15) and says he may not take any others. "I'm not sure if I am going to take any more visits," Paulson said. "Right now it's really down to those two. I also like Stanford and may give them a visit, but it's basically between Cal and Oregon."

His player host at Cal was defensive end Tad Smith. "It was all good," Paulson said. "I had a really nice time. The game day atmosphere was great and they played awesome. I loved getting to experience what it's like being a player and getting to know all the guys. It was just a lot of fun hanging out with the players and getting to go to the team dinner and go into the locker and all that stuff. Plus the school is really good too. They have great academics."

During his Oregon visit, his host was fellow tight end Ryan Keeling. "I like how they use their tight ends," Paulson said. "They throw to the tight end a lot and I'd probably have a good opportunity to play early there. I like talking with the tight end coach (Neal Zoumboukos). He's a good guy and I've gotten to know him well. He always takes time to talk with me and I like how he's always coaching and giving advice. He really wants you to grow and improve."

Paulson visited Oregon for the now-legendary Oklahoma game. "It was a very exciting game," Paulson said. "The Ducks played hard and never gave up and when they came back the crowd went crazy. The fans are very loud and it's just a great atmosphere for football."

Despite listing Oregon and Cal as his top two, Paulson says he's still considering Stanford as well. "I love their academics," he said. "They are struggling right now, but I like the coaches and it's a great school overall."

He reports a 3.9 GPA and a 1720 SAT score.
