Time is on His Side

Two-star defensive end Scott Smith (6-5, 240, 4.9), from Honolulu St Louis (Hawaii), has had eight tackles so far this season and his team is still undefeated with a 5-0 record. Smith says he recently received an offer from Boise State and the Broncos are now in his top five.

"I don't know much about them, but they've been coming on strong lately," Smith said. "Also they are having a great season."

He favors Oregon solidly over Arizona, Washington, UCLA and Boise State. The only other school in his top five that has offered him is Oregon. He also has offers from Hawaii and San Diego State.

"I talk with all the coaches at Oregon a lot but my recruiting coach is Steve Greatwood (Ducks offensive line coach)," Smith said. "I like all the coaches because they seem very genuine. Coach Greatwood said they need defensive linemen and that I'd be able to contribute early and be a real difference maker. He says that even though they are having a good season the team is still young and up-and-coming."

Although Smith admits he hasn't had time to follow college football closely this season, he is eagerly anticipating the California/Oregon game this Saturday (October 7). "Oregon is undefeated and ranked number 11 and I think they'll win," Smith said. "I hope they beat Cal and get into the top ten. They've been playing as well as anybody this season."

Smith hopes that Washington will be his next offer. "I sent them some tape and we'll see what happens," Smith said. "I feel like I still have a lot of time before I need to start worrying about college."

He reports a 2.8 core GPA and will be taking the SAT on Saturday, October 14.
