Friday Night in the Bay Area

Oakland, Calif. -- What an interesting Friday. First I land at Oakland's airport and there tons of folks dressed in green and yellow. The Oakland A's were back in town for the ALDS against the Minnesota Twins and mixed into the sea of green and yellow were some O's as well.

The weather was like what I left in Portland and there is a promise of clear skies tomorrow and maybe temperatures in the 70s. So for the most part, between answering technical questions about the site from some folks having access problems* and following the baseball game, Friday was pretty typical.

This evening, I made my way to the Piedmont-Salesian and saw two obvious Division I talents. Salesaian's running back Jahvid Best is as advertised showing tremendous foot speed and durability. Best broke at least one long run of nearly 50 yards. On the other side of the line of scrimmage, Ducks' verbal commit Tonio Celotto was impressive too. Even the Ducks have recruited Celottto, 6-3, 255 as a lineman, it was surprising to see him at middle linebacker and how effective he was. Salesian eventually won the game 38-23.

The next stop was the team hotel where I was able to confirm Jeremy Gibbs made the Cal trip. In fact all four of the available defensive tackles (Gibbs, David Faaeteete, Matt Toeaina and Simi Toeaina) made the trip. Wide receiver Garren Strong did not make the trip however.

The Ducks will be wearing their green helmets, white jerseys, black pants for the game tomorrow.

By the way, if you are at the game tomorrow or are watching on television you may hear some F-18s flying over. This is Fleet Week in the Bay Area and the Navy's Blue Angles will be performing.

One last note, if you haven't already heard. The A's swept the Twins in three games with an 8-3 win today.
