Odds and Ends from Media Day

Saturday marked the start of the 107th season of football for the University of Oregon. At Media Day on Friday, several items were presented in a hand out prepared by the Media Services office of the University of Oregon Athletic Department. Among the pieces of information: A total of 5,000 single-game reserved seats is all that remains for three Oregon football games.

A limited number of standing room-only tickets for the Ducks' October 26th home game against USC will go on sale to the general public Monday (August 12th) beginning at 9 a.m. Less than 200 seats remain for Oregon's September 9th game against Fresno State, while 2,000 tickets are available for Idaho (September 14) and Portland State (September 21). The cost of all reserved seats is $29, with purchases available in person at the Casanova Center Ticket Office, by phone at (541) 346-4461 or 800-WEBFOOT, or via the Ducks' web site goducks.com. Standing room-only tickets for the USC game are $13 for adults and $6.50 for children, with purchases available in person or by phone only.

The Ducks have 36 returning letterman this season compared with 30 returnees from last year's number two-ranked squad.

Any All-Star Ducks?
Seniors Keenan Howry and David Moretti have been extended invitations to participate in the 78th annual East-West Shrine Game to be held January 11, 2003 in San Francisco.

Fan Day
The annual Fan Day (formerly Autograph Day) that is open to the general public will be held on Saturday, August 24th, starting at 11 a.m. Players and coaches will be available in the Moshofsky Center from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Autzen Stadium will also be open from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Roster Changes?
Only one player from the 2002 recruiting class will definitely not join the team on Saturday. Offensive lineman Albert Toeaina (Pittsburg HS, Antioch, Calif) did not meet eligibility requirements. The Ducks are hopeful that Kellen Taylor (City College of San Francisco/ San Jose, Calif) and Darius Sanders (Lynwood HS/Los Angeles, Calif) will soon be in camp once approval is granted by the NCAA Clearinghouse. Five players who were on the squad last season and have eligibility left will not be returning this fall. Randall Bowen and Mike Willis were dismissed from school. Jason Mohamed was dismissed from the team. Josh Jones will remain on scholarship but has retired from football due to injuries. Eddie Smith has informed the coaches of intention of giving up the game.
