Doubles Teams Dominant in Early ITA Regional

BERKELEY, Calif. -- Two doubles pairs advanced to the quarterfinals as the Duck women's tennis team opened the Northwest ITA Regional tournament Friday at California. The second-seeded pairing of Dominika Dieskova and Ana Cecilia Olivos paced the Ducks, rolling to a 6-1 victory before the pair of Caitlin Aloia and Feline Charlot of Saint Mary's were forced to retire due to injury.

Carmen Seremeta and Claudia Hirt also advanced to the doubles quarterfinals in easy fashion, dispatching Washington State's Aleksandra Cekic and Amy Toth, 8-3.

In singles play, freshman Erika Januskova won her first round match against Sacramento State's Aileen Tsan before falling to the No. 1 seeded Theresa Logar of Stanford in the round of 64. Senior Monica Hoz de Vila won the only other singles match of the day for the Ducks, defeating Saint Mary's Jessica Hoath. The La Paz, Bolivia native bounced back from a first set defeat to win the last two sets convincingly, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3.

Anna Powaska, Claudia Hirt and Dieskova all had first round byes and will open up their singles portion of the tournament tomorrow.

The ITA Northwest Regional continues Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
