Ducks Release 2007 Women's Softball Schedule

EUGENE, Ore. — The University of Oregon softball team will face a slew of teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament last season, including Georgia, Florida and defending national champion Arizona. After playing in six preseason tournaments, Oregon will face a difficult conference season as seven teams advanced to the postseason a year ago.

Four of those teams — Arizona, UCLA, Oregon State and Arizona State — advanced to the Women's College World Series.

The Ducks open the season Feb. 9-11 at the Kajikawa Tournament hosted by Arizona State University. Oregon's first game of the season will be against Florida, which hosted the NCAA regional tournament a year ago. Oregon is scheduled to play five games in the tournament and concludes the weekend against Texas Tech.

The following week, Oregon makes the first of two trips to Las Vegas to compete in the UNLV Desert Classic. The Ducks begin play Friday vs. UC Davis and wrap up the weekend on Sunday against Utah. Other games include Seton Hall, Florida International and Fullerton.

Oregon then travels to San Diego, Calif., Feb. 23-25, for its third preseason tournament to face off with Sienna, Long Beach State, North Dakota State, San Diego State and University of San Diego. Prior to the start of the Aztec Invitational, the Ducks will play University of San Diego in a single game on Thursday, Feb. 22 at 3 p.m.

The Malihini Tournament in Honolulu, Hawaii starts off the month of March for Oregon as they travel to Hawaii for the second time in three years. Oregon will start the tournament Mar. 1 with a game against Georgia, which was ranked No. 13 in the final USA Softball Poll. The Ducks then play host Hawaii followed by games against Kent State (Fri., Mar. 2) and St. Mary's (Fri.). Saturday and Sunday will be determined by bracket play.

Oregon makes a return trip to Las Vegas Mar. 8-10 to play in the Eller Media Stadium Invitational. The Ducks are one of five teams competing over the weekend. The Ducks will then host the Cascade Clash at Howe Field, Mar. 16-18, playing at home for the first time Fri., Mar. 16 vs. Utah State (DH) at 1 p.m. and then Saturday against Towson (1 p.m.) and Sunday vs. South Dakota State.

Before opening conference action, the Ducks will host Idaho State in a doubleheader at 1 p.m. on Sat., Mar. 24, Utah Valley State Sun., Mar. 25 (1 p.m.) and Portland State on Weds., Mar. 28.

Conference play opens Mar. 30 against California at 3 p.m. at Howe Field. Oregon is home for its first eight conference contests and hosts Oregon State Apr. 6-7.

The Ducks will then hit the road for seven Pac-10 games beginning at Arizona State Apr. 20 and concluding with Washington Apr. 29. Oregon's final homestand is May 4-6 when the Ducks host the Arizona schools. The regular season wraps up in the Bay Area against Stanford (May10, 7 p.m.), California (May 11, TBA) and California (May 12, 1 p.m.). The NCAA regional tournament begins May 18-20.
