Does It All

Three-star (ranked No. 65 by Brandon Carswell (6-1, 175, 4.5) from Milpitas (Calif.) has helped lead his team to a 5-4 record with 1005 yard rushing and 834 yards passing, but everyone is recruiting him as a receiver. Defensively, he had 36 tackles.

"I'm very versatile," Carswell said. "I run good routes and use my body well. I'm physical and I can be a big playmaker, but I also go across the middle well and am a good possession receiver. I do it all.

"I'd like to improve my overall speed, especially coming off the ball," Carswell said. "I want to improve my stamina too."

He benches 245-pounds and has a 34-inch vertical jump.

Carswell denies a leader, but favors USC, California, Oregon, Boise State and UNLV and says that all of them have offered. He also has offers from Arizona State, Utah, Fresno State and Idaho (which was his first scholarship offer during the summer).

"I'll be visiting USC officially on December 15," Carswell said. "I like the whole Los Angeles area because there's a lot to do there. I love how intense the team is and how intense their practices are. They work hard, but have a lot of fun too.

"They just offered a few weeks ago and since then they've really been coming after me hard. I talk with all the coaches, like (offensive coordinator) Lane Kiffin, (offensive line coach) Pat Ruel and even head coach Pete Carroll. They all seem very cool and we just joke around on the phone."

Carswell was supposed to visit Oregon on November 18, but says he'll reschedule that visit. "Our team is probably going to be in the playoffs, so I'm going to reschedule," Carswell said. "I really like Oregon a lot. I have a great relationship with (defensive coordinator) coach Nick Aliotti. He's a big jokester, but takes football seriously. He said that I'm their guy and that he sees me doing big things for their program. I like how long he's been with the Ducks."

He will also be visiting Cal on December 8. "They've really turned it on since they lost to Tennessee at the beginning of the season," Carswell said. "They blew out Oregon and are looking really sharp. The Pac-10 is up in the air this year. It's hard to pick a favorite and the next few weeks will be pretty exciting. I'm hoping to go to the Cal/USC game."

Carswell says he will make his decision after all of his visits. "I need to be comfortable at the school and the area," he said. "I don't care if it's a small town or big city, it'll just be about how I feel once I'm there."

He reports a 2.1 core GPA and a 980 SAT, which he will retake. "A lot of the coaches have said that I need to get it done in the classroom and that they have faith that I will. I'm taking a full schedule (six classes) right now and am trying to get my GPA up."
