Oregon trails at halftime 14-0

Los Angeles, Calif. – Oregon moved the ball but were unable to capitalize and went into the locker room at half time trailing 14-0. USC converted an errant Dennis Dixon pass to score one touchdown while Oregon was unable to garner any points out of an interception of a John David Booty pass.

Ducks won the toss and elected to receive. The Trojans kicked off from the west to the east. USC has kicked off in all nine games this season. The Ducks avoid a disaster when Jeremiah Johnson fumbled the kickoff. However, he regained control and ran to the 15.
< br> Oregon's initial drive failed at the USC 13 after starting from its own 15. Ducks went 72 yards in 17 plays but produced no points.
< br> USC responded with a lateral from John David Booty to Dwayne Jarrett for 36 yards. USC continued its drive to Oregon's 15 when Blair Phillips intercepted Booty's pass and returned the ball to the Oregon 45.
< br> The Ducks moved the ball to the USC 37 but were stopped and forced to punt. Southern California took over after the touchback on its own 20.
< br> The first quarter ended with the USC driving and sitting at fourth and a yard at the Oregon 35. Score after one quarter Oregon 0, USC 0. Statistically the game was very even in the first quarter as Oregon picked up 90 yards of total offense compared to USC's 102 yards. Dixon was 7-of-9 for 51 yards while Booty was 5-of-8 for 41 yards and the interception.
< br> When play resumed in the second quarter Booty drove forward to pick up the first down. Oregon was drawn off sides putting the ball at 29. C.J. Gable lost 2 yards on the ensuring play. Gable picked up on making it 3rd and six for USC at the Oregon 30. Booty under heavy pressure found Smith who picked up the first down to the Oregon 22. Booty then hit Smith again at the Duck 4 and for first and goal. Jairus Byrd was called for pass interference and the ball was placed at the 2, first and 10. Gable took the hand off from Booty and went into the end zone for the first score of the night. The point after was good and the Trojans took a 7-0 lead.
< br> Dixon made a huge mistake on the first snap of Oregon's next drive when his pass was picked off by safety Chris McWhorter. The ball was returned to the Oregon 7. Chauncey Washington slammed into the end zone from the Oregon 5 and suddenly the Ducks were trailing 14-0.
< br> Oregon started stalling out on offense as Dixon was sacked on 3rd down and the Ducks were forced to punt after three snaps. Aaron Knowles' punt carried to the USC 26.
< br> Despite some great play by Booty, Smith and Jarrett Oregon finally got a break by stopping the Trojans on downs and took possession with 4:17 left in the half. The Ducks mounted a drive of 76 yards but were turned away when Paul Martinez's 23-yard field goal attempt went wide left.

Dixon was 12-of-18 for 90 yards and an interception. He also rushed for 30 yards. Jonathan Stewart had 29 yards on nine carries. Booty was 10-for-15, 100 yards and interception. Washigton had 38 yards on eight carries. Oregon had a total 154 yards in the first half and the Trojans had 159.
