Ducks trail at halftime 24-10

Eugene, Ore. -- All the things that have plagued the Oregon Ducks during the second half of the season continued to flare up in the first 30-minutes of the Oregon-Arizona game -- turnovers and the inability to stop the run. Dennis Dixon threw two costly turnovers and Chris Henry did the rest.

Henry rushed for 101 yards in the first half alone as he continually slipped poor tackle attempts and punished Oregon's half-hearted effort to keep the game competitive.

The Ducks first score was a 27-yard Paul Martinez field goal after driving the ball 70 yards in 17 plays. The Ducks had trouble on the right side of the line as the line surge was neutralized in the red zone.

The first mistake of the game was when Patrick Chung failed to field a punt and fumbled on the 15. Chris Henry immediately made the Ducks pay by running the ball into the end zone and after the conversion, Oregon trailed 7-3.

The Duck defense looked absolutely porous on UA's second drive of 62 yards. Despite being in the hole on a first and 25, the Wildcats had no problem in finding holes or open men and promptly march down the field as if they were playing a high school team.

Oregon responded with an 65 yard drive of its own as Jeremiah Johnson took off through a gigantic hole on the left side and burst 56 yards and two plays later took the ball in from 8 yards out. Martinez hit the PAT and the Ducks trailed by four, 14-10. Ironically, the Ducks reinserted right tackle Geoff Schwartz in place of starter Mark Lewis. Schwartz had been the starter in the spot for the last two seasons. However, Lewis cam back in the next time Oregon had the ball.

After holding the Wildcats to three downs and a punt, Dixon threw an interception and Arizona had great field position at the Oregon 39. Horrible tackling plus a determined effort on the Wildcats part moved the ball into the end zone in front of a stunned Autzen crowd made the score 21-10.

The boo-birds came out in force as Dixon's weak pass was tipped at the line of scrimmage and intercepted again giving Arizona good field position and the Arizona 46. Behind Henry's running the Wildcats moved he ball to the Oregon 6. Nick Folk kicked a 29-yard field goal to make the score 24-10 at halftime.
