Monday Practice Update

The team as a whole is in great spirits and there is a lot of excitement in the air, probably because daily doubles are over and there is a big game this Saturday. Most of the front line players practiced today including junior fullback Matt Floberg and sophomore wide receiver Keith Allen all suited up for practice.

Aaron Gipson's stock is soaring and the true freshman is pushing sophomore Charles Favroth for the starting job at cornerback. Head Coach Mike Bellotti indicated last Friday that a decision regarding the starting position for the remaining cornerback position would be made this week. Junior Steven Moore will be the other cornerback. Both cornerback positions became vacant due to graduation of Rashad Bauman and Steve Smith.

The entire team continues to look more polished. Junior running back Onterrio Smith looked dominant Monday, as did junior wide receiver Samie Parker. Jason Fife's timing and passes were excellent.

Meanwhile redshirt freshman wide receiver Demetrius Williams and senior wide receiver Jason Willis both had excellent practices today and did a good job catching the ball.

Coach Bellotti noted the improvement in the team and said the team is anxious to see how they match up against another team. Bellotti also said that Oregon respect MSU but doesn't fear them. Bellotti said he isn't worried about the quarterback position and says that Fife continues to improve and it takes two good quarterbacks to have a successful team. Bellotti also noted that freshman Kellen Clemens has really improved a lot, even in the last week. Bottom line, the team looks like it will be ready.
