Ducks lead 37-33 at half, look to advance

St. Louis, MO – The Oregon Ducks (28-7) are tangling with the UNLV Running Rebels (30-6) in the Midwest Regional Semifinals at the Edward Jones Dome with the victor advancing to the elite eight. The winner will meet the defending national champion Florida Gators on Sunday for the right to go to the Final Four. Florida defeated Butler 65-57 in the first semifinal.

3rd seeded Oregon leads the 7th seeded Rebels 37-33 at halftime behind the sensational play of freshman Tajuan Porter who has 17 points. Porter has hit four of six three point attempts, all three free throws, and dropped in a nifty runner in the lane.

Oregon opened an early 7-2 lead after Maarty Leunen made a lay-up and three pointer. UNLV battled back to take a one point lead on three separate occasions, the last of which was at 27-26.

The Rebels were sparked by forward Joe Darger who came off the bench to hit all four of his shots including two three pointers for 10 points. Kevin Kruger, son of UNLV coach Lon Kruger, has seven points including a four point play.

Leunen, Malik Hairston, and Joevan Catron have helped the Ducks control the glass and build a 24-18 rebounding advantage. Hairston leads Oregon with eight rebounds while Leunen has seven. Catron made an impact off the bench five rebounds, four points, and an assist.

The Ducks are shooting 43 percent from the field on 13-30 and are holding UNLV to 32 percent on 12-28. Oregon's big lead of the game was at 37-31 right before intermission.
