"(Clackamas Head Coach) Ray Baker wanted Zach to go to Oregon State so they could have a look at him," said the elder Schmich. "He went down to Oregon for the Nike camp and then spent a day camp for Oregon."
Zach camped at Oregon between his sophomore and junior year. He has been in contact with Defensive Line Coach Steve Greatwood and Offensive Line Coach Neal Zamboukous. The Oregon coaching staff told him that they come on late and for Schmich not to panic (if he doesn't hear from them right away) they usually show up later in the season to talk to the recruits. Portland State has been calling Zach.
Zach did receive game tickets to the Washington game against Wyoming. Zach will also be attending the Portland State game this upcoming weekend (September 14th.)
The letters he has received from Washington, Oregon State and Oregon all basically say the same thing, keep up the hard work.
"You are among one of the top prospects in the Northwest," said Tom of the content in the letters sent to his son by Washington, Oregon State and Oregon. "Will be looking at you this fall."
Zach really doesn't have a top five list of the schools he is interested in. Zach has been a lifelong Duck fan but he knows he must consider all his options. He has not yet received an offer from any of the three Pac-10 schools.
"He really wants to go to Oregon," said Tom. "He might be a bit discouraged because he hasn't heard from them lately and I think he might be leaning toward Washington."
Clackamas beat McMinnville 28-19 for their second win of the season.
