Derrick Jones must have read the strong comments made about him by the coaching staff as he responded today catching nearly everything that came his way. In one catch, Jones made a one-handed snag away from T.J. Ward that would have gone for a touchdown had it been the real thing.
Jones also spent time with the punt returners.
If anyone wonders why Dennis Dixon is the starting quarterback, on one play Dixon faked a hand off to Jonathan Stewart, sprinted out to the left, and then went up the sideline untouched for a touchdown. Dixon was consistent and poised today in his throws.
Geoff Schwartz is looking very svelte and quicker off the line.
Patrick Chung had a good play when he stripped the ball away from Cameron Colvin after a good catch and run.
Speaking of Colvin, he looks more motivated than he has over the last few years, and it is easy to tell that he is determined to perform well.
We're not exactly sure what happened, but Michael Speed and Max Unger had an exchange of pleasantries that was broken up by the coaches. No harm no foul, just boys being boys.
It looks like Willie Glasper will contend for playing time with his work on the practice field.
The rookies will be back on the field after 4:30 p.m.
