Oregon vs Stanford Photos

Part 1 of this week's eDuck photo essay by Chris Wilson provides a "recap" of a game that began with a bang, but started to fizzle before finally ending with the roar of 34 unanswered points. When it was all said and done, the rain never came and the Ducks didn't lose. Did we mention the defense showed up to play in the second half?

On the first play of the game the Duck defense put T.C. Ostrander (13) under intense pressure. Here David Faaeteete (90) and Nick Reed (49) nearly get a sack.

Two plays later Jairus Byrd (32) sacked Ostrander, who barely held on to the ball while being smothered by Byrd.

Jonathan Stewart (28) ran for a game high 167 yards on 19 carries. He ran through arm tackles like a hot knife through butter and here puts the Ducks up 14-0 early in the game.

The defensive pressure kept up throughout the first quarter and picked up again in the third quarter. Nick Reed nearly got to Ostrander (13), who despite throwing for 262 yards on 25-44 passing was unable to put points on the board in the second half.

Special teams had their ups and downs. But here Rory Cavaille (91) clears the way for Andiel Brown (27), who broke off this 64 yard punt return to set up yet another Duck touchdown in the first quarter.

Before anyone could catch their breath Jeremiah Johnson (24), outran Stanford free safety Bo McNally (20) to the end-zone to put the Ducks ahead to stay 38-31. Johnson would finish with 64 yards on 14 carries for the game.

Without a doubt, one of the most compelling story lines in the game was the emergence of Cam Colvin (3) who burst into the void left by Bryan Paysinger's season ending knee injury with 8 catches for 136 yards. Colvin was both fast and tough, as he outraced Stanford defenders all night.

Only up 38-31 with six minutes left in the third quarter Oregon's defense came up huge on a 4th down and inches play. The D-line stuffed the initial attempt of Stanford running back Anthony Kimble (5) and Oregon's Patrick Chung (15) eyed what would be a huge stop.

…and then by an entire gaggle of Ducks including Jairus Byrd (32) and Jerome Boyd (13), who helped make the tackle despite losing his helmet on the play. In the second half the Ducks held Stanford to a mere 17 yards rushing.

Jeremiah Johnson and his teammates held up four fingers at the start of the fourth quarter after the Ducks put up three unanswered touchdowns to seize control of the game in the third quarter.

Jaison Williams (4) puts the finishing touches on a brilliant game for Dennis Dixon, by turning a crossing route into a 50-yard touchdown pass. Williams, along with Cam Colvin, answered the call tonight, pulling down 7 catches for 113 yards and a touchdown.
