Cornhuskers Stun Ducks in OT

Omaha, Neb - In a highly entertaining game, the Nebraska Cornhuskers upset the 16th ranked Oregon Ducks (8-2) 88-79 in overtime in a game played 60 miles from the Huskers campus in Lincoln. Tajuan Porter, sensational in regulation with 27 points, hit a three-pointer with 9.1 seconds left to send the game into overtime.

Porter was fouled on the play and could have given Oregon the lead by converting the four-point play, but missed the free-throw.

The Ducks were plagued by costly turnovers for the first 22 minutes of the game. Oregon had 13 turnovers with 18 minutes left to play before settling down. Oregon finished the game with 16 turnovers, nine of those coming from Oregon's Joevan Catron and Kamyron Brown.

Nebraska started strong in both the first and second half, bolting out to an early 9-0 lead to start the ball game. Oregon responded with a 14-4 run to take the lead at 14-13 behind two three pointers each from Porter and Malik Hairston, who had 25 points and hit all five of his three point attempts.

The Ducks took their biggest lead of the first half on a Hairston three to go up 32-29. The Cornhuskers responded with a 9-2 run to close the half and lead 38-34 at intermission.

Nebraska started the second half similar to the first, scoring the first six points to open up a ten point lead and prompting a timeout from Oregon coach Ernie Kent at the 18:20 mark of the second half.

Oregon was in catch up mode for the rest of the game. Nebraska opened up their biggest lead at 52-39 with just over 16 minutes left in the game. The Ducks chipped away at the lead before finally tying the contest on Porter's three.

Ryan Anderson, who had 19 points and eight rebounds, gave Nebraska the lead for good after hitting a three to open the overtime period. The Ducks were hurt inside by 6'11" center Aleks Maric who lead the Huskers in scoring with 22 points and also contributed eight rebounds.

Maric initially declared himself available for the 2007 NBA draft before changing his mind and deciding to return to Lincoln for his senior year. Maric is averaging 16 points and nine rebounds a game for Nebraska who improved to 8-2.

Bryce Taylor scored nine points for Oregon to go along with eight rebounds while Maarty Leunen scored a season-low three points.

Oregon's next game is Saturday December 22nd in Detroit Michigan against the Oakland Golden Grizzlies
