Huskies Continue Home Mastery of Ducks

The Washington Huskies (10-7, 1-3) continued their home mastery of the Oregon Ducks (12-5, 3-2) with their seventh straight victory against their Northwest rival at Bank of America Arena in Seattle with a 78-70 victory. The Huskies were lead by forward Jon Brockman who dominated the inside with 21 points and 16 rebounds.

The game began with a frenetic pace as Oregon hit their first three shots from three-point territory to take an early 9-4 lead, the first coming from senior center Maarty Leunen who lead the Ducks with 22 points on an efficient 8 of 9 from the field including a perfect four of four on three-point attempts. The Huskies would match Oregon's hot start and the teams were tied at 24 with just over ten minutes left in the first half.

Washington started to assert itself and opened up an eight point lead at 42-34 after four straight points from Brockman. Oregon would cut the lead to five at intermission and were led by Leunen who scored 13 in the half.

The Huskies controlled the second half, never leading by fewer than three points with a big lead of nine. Washington, in desperate need of their first conference win of the season, got a big spark from Duck killer Ryan Appleby who broke out of a disappointing senior campaign with 19 big points against Oregon.

Malik Hairston scored 20 points for the Ducks to go along with six rebounds. Bryce Taylor had 12 points and TaJuan Porter added 10 on 3 of 12 from the field. Oregon shot 41% from the field for the game compared to 43% for Washington but were dominated by the Huskies on the glass who claimed a 40-30 rebounding advantage for the game.

Oregon next plays at eight ranked Washington State Sunday evening at 5:00 PM.
