Stanford Thrashes Oregon 72-43

The 9th ranked Stanford Cardinal (19-3, 8-2) dominated the fading Oregon Ducks (13-9, 4-6) winning 72-43 in Palo Alto on Thursday night. Stanford won its sixth straight game and has now defeated Oregon 22 consecutive times at home dating back to 1986. Oregon lost for the fifth time in its last 6 games.

The Cardinal were led by 7 foot sophomore Robin Lopez who had 15 points, six rebounds, and two blocks and his twin brother Brook who added 12 points, seven rebounds, and five blocked shots. Oregon swarmed Brook every time he touched the ball after having led Stanford in scoring the last seven games in a row. Robin Lopez took advantage of the opportunity to lead the Cardinal in scoring.

Robin Lopez scored consecutive baskets during a decisive 11-0 Stanford run that gave the Cardinal a 27-11 lead midway through the first half. Stanford hit five three pointers in the first half and shot 55% from the field.

Oregon, who came into the game averaging 80.3 points per game, had only one player in double figures, TaJuan Porter with 12. The Ducks trailed 37-23 at the half and only managed another 20 points in the second half. The 5'6" Porter also led Oregon in rebounding with six.

It was a tough way for Oregon to start the Bay Area trip where they have struggled in recent years. The Ducks have been swept in the Bay the last seven years and haven't won at California, their opponent on Saturday, since the 1999-2000 season.

Oregon was thwarted all night by tough Stanford defense which limited Oregon to 29% shooting on 14-48 from the field. Stanford controlled the glass convincingly and outrebounded Oregon 40-28 for the game.

The Ducks who made a run to the elite eight in last seasons NCAA tourney, now have a tall task ahead of them to just make the postseason. Oregon hasn't won a road game since beating Arizona in Tucson on Jan. 5th.
