Oregon is One of His Top Two Picks

Shooting guard Malik Story is a big time prospect that now lists Oregon as one of his top-2 finalist for his services. Story, one of the last major recruits of the 2008 class, reopened his recruitment after he and his family decided that he needed to explore his options.

Malik Story, 6-5, 190, had committed to USC after his sophomore year. Because of some situations and changes at USC the Story family felt Malik had to look at some other options, according to William Middlebrooks, Head Coach at Ribet Academy, the school Story will graduate from in a few days.

"He de-committed from USC and opened his recruiting back up," Middlebrooks told eDuck Sports of Story's recruitment. "Right now Oregon and Georgetown are the top two with Wake Forest still hanging in there. Now it's a matter of the process of sending transcripts off and such things."

Story would like to get the formal process out of the way so that he can make his decision, graduate from high school and if possible enroll at an institution in time for summer session. Story will be a qualifier for enrollment and able to pass through the (NCAA) clearinghouse.

"He's a very smart kid and has all the capabilities in the world," Middlebrooks said of Story. "It's just a matter of staying on top of him, which is the case with most of these kids.

As a player, Middlebrooks thinks Story definitely has a shot at playing in college at the highest level of competition. According to the coach, Story can shoot the pro-3 consistently and has a pro-body already. Story can play the shooting guard position and is a very good defender. He has a high basketball IQ and is most at home on the court. Middlebrooks says Story is "a big time player."

What was it about Oregon that drew Story's attention? Coach Ernie Kent is the answer to that question.

"Coach Kent and his coaching style and what they do at Oregon, I think is a good fit for him," Middlebrooks confided. "I know his (Story) dad likes Coach Kent a lot and has a lot of respect for him."

Middlebrooks went onto say that the academic emphasis Kent is known to place on his players is definitely attractive to Story's family and it is really important.
