Rivera had a good summer

Mychal Rivera had a pretty good summer. After graduating from high school, he came up to Eugene and enrolled at the University of Oregon, taking advantage of the time to get to know his new teammates as well as get in shape during the summer workouts.

Tight end Mychal Rivera, 6-4, 242, is part of the 2008 Duck recruiting class that participated in the summer workouts, and it was clear that the time in Eugene was well spent. Not only was Rivera able to adjust to college life, he also was able to get a feel for what it will be like when the Ducks return to the practice field on Aug. 4th, the first day of fall camp for the 2008 season.

What were Rivera's impressions of what went on during the summer and how he did? Rivera feels that he can play with the veterans and can be competitive. He also learned that staying in top shape will be essential to his success.

"I did real good," answered Rivera to the question of how things went for him this summer. "I was in with the veterans and I feel I can get right in the mix."

Rivera was Oregon's first verbal commitment last summer, and while his team used him primarily as a blocker he will get his chance to catch the ball at Oregon. Rivera and his teammates are coming back to Eugene on August 2nd, and camp will formally start next Monday.
