Davis is Focused on Catching Balls

One of the more common questions we seem to hear a lot on eDuck.com is how's Drew Davis doing? We caught up with Davis this week before practice and according to him, there is still work to do but things are getting better and better each practice.

Drew Davis, 6-1, 205, was a 4-star wide receiver from Denver, Colo., when he came to Oregon in the spring of 2007. The Ducks beat out the likes of UCLA for his services and naturally fans have been hoping to see him do well on the playing field.

Last year as a true freshman, he saw action in 12 games and recorded three receptions for 35 yards and had a touchdown grab. This year he is backing up Jamere Holland at one receiver position but don't let that fool you, Davis is going to see plenty of action this year.

He and his teammates are just about halfway through fall camp and on Saturday will have the longest scrimmage session of the season. How are things going for Davis?

"I'm doing real well now, but I'm not where I want to be but I'm progressing as the days go on," Davis said. "Hopefully by the end of fall camp I'll be where I want to be. Right now I focused on catching the ball and having my assignments down."

Davis is a guy that can explain things well and he was very honest in evaluating how he and his receiver teammates are progressing.

"We still have a couple of players getting acclimated to the offense," explained Davis of how things are going in camp. "Learning the plays a little bit more, the in's and out's of it. Receiver-wise we are looking pretty good, catching a lot of balls and practices each day are getting better, so it is good to see."

If the first game of the season were to be played tomorrow, Davis is a bit weary of what might happen even though he remains optimistic.

"If we played the game tomorrow, I wouldn't say we'd be in trouble, but that's why fall camp is a month long," said Davis with a grin on his face. "We still have a long way to go and a lot of work to be done. We take it one day at a time, win the day."

So to answer the question of how Davis is doing, the best way of putting it is that he is working hard, doing well and seeking to improve himself and really that's all anyone can ask for.
