Look Ma, I'm Fine!

Early in the first quarter just after running back Jeremiah Johnson took off on a 37-yard gallop, there was noticeable concern among the Ducks. Johnson came down hard on his right shoulder after being tackled on his first run and he was talking to the trainers on the sideline. Soon he left the stadium from the training room. His teammates went on to defeat Utah State 66-24.

Now, there are two versions of Johnson's condition. One is Head Coach Mike Bellotti who indicated that Johnson is week-to-week but no one knows the severity of the shoulder injury. However, if you ask Jeremiah Johnson, he has a much more optimistic view of things.

"Just a little shoulder pop out and pop in," said Johnson about his injury. "We all good."

Football wise, the Ducks didn't need their senior leader against the Utah State Aggies after the first play. The Ducks set a school record for total offense with 688 total yards, including 438 in rushing. Johnson's back up LeGarrette Blount recorded his first 100-yard game, carrying the ball 18 times for a total of 132 yards and two touchdowns. Andre Crenshaw ran it 10 times for 72 net yards and a score while Remene Alston had nearly the same numbers carrying 11 times for 71 yards and a touchdown.

The running back corps was aided with Terence Scott's run of 51 yards and a touchdown. The quarterbacks got into the picture with Justin Roper gaining 35 yards and a touchdown on five carries, while Chris Harper had four carries for 25 yards and a touchdown.

Of course the trainers and doctors will have the final say on Johnson's condition, but if confidence can lead to healing then Johnson should be just fine. The Ducks would very much like him to be ready to go next Saturday against Purdue but until then, to anyone who'll listen Johnson is just fine.
