Sims Has Glowing Remarks For Oregon

Four-star quarterback, Phillip Sims of Oscar F. Smith HS in Chesapeake, Virginia, was kind enough to sit down with eDuck for a quick Q&A discussing the latest surrounding his recruitment going into Signing Day 2010.

Have you had any contact with Oregon?

"I get letters, but I haven't talked to anyone yet."

Do you have a feeling, based purely on the interactions you've had with Oregon, that there may be an impending offer?

"Yeah, I definitely think so. I mean I'm interested in the university and I hope that they're interested in me. If they are I definitely think an offer will be coming."

What would you say your overall interest in Oregon is?

"It's one of those places that a lot of guys from around here don't really talk about because it is a long way from home, but the way I see it, distance from home won't be a factor in my decision as to where I'll go to school at. I want to go to a school that plays good competition every year and feel like they (Oregon) are a couple players away from a National Championship."

Is there one thing in particular that captures your interest the most about Oregon?

"I feel that it's the offense, the facilities, and just the situation of the environment of the university. Any time you get to play USC and Cal, and schools like that every year, you're on the main stage."

How would you describe yourself as a player?

"I feel I'm a pocket passer. I make good decisions. I feel like I have a strong arm and can stretch the ball down the field, but I also like to mix in the intermediate routes...I like to get the ball in the athletes' hands and let them do what they do."

Would you compare yourself to anyone at the collegiate or professional level?

"My favorite NFL quarterback is Carson Palmer. I like Andre' Woodson the quarterback who used to play for Kentucky a couple years ago. If there is anybody I could model myself after it would be him. It just seemed like he was a smooth guy in the pocket. He didn't do all that razzle-dazzle stuff, it just seemed like he was good getting the ball out of his hand quick and getting his receivers the ball."

What are you looking for in a program?

"Having a relationship with the coaching staff, having the ability to play in a pro-style or spread-type of offense that gives me the chance to make plays, and being around people that I know will make me better and put me in a situation where I can go to the next level."

Have you received any offers from other schools?

"I have [official] offers from Alabama, Tennessee, North Carolina, Maryland, Clemson, Boston College, West Virginia, Virginia Tech, Kentucky, Louisville, and Georgia."

Do you have any leaders at this point?

"Right now I don't really have anyone on top because every time I try to narrow my list down, a new school pops up, so I've just decided to leave it open for a while and let things work themselves out and see where we'll go from there."

If Oregon were to offer, where would they be in that mix?

"If Oregon were to offer me they would definitely be towards the top of my list. They would definitely be high on my list and I would definitely think about taking a visit next year."

Are you planning on going to any camps this summer?

"Right now I haven't decided on anything. I'm going to the [Badger Sport] National 7-on-7 competition at Rutgers on February 28th. I have an unofficial trip to Alabama in April and I might go to the Elite 11 [qualifying] camp. That's all I have scheduled for right now, so we'll see what happens from there."

Are you planning on going to any "Junior Days"?

"Right now the scheduling is so tight that I missed out on a few "Junior Days" already. I'm going to try to go to some, but nothing is for sure."
