Could be a Mother's Dream

Wide receiver Josh Harper has some pretty good football genes. Harper, 6-2, 190 with 4.5 speed in the 40-yard dash is the son of former NFL and San Francisco great, Willie Harper. He also is the brother of a former Duck, Matt, who may be on the sidelines again for Oregon as a graduate assistant.

Josh Harper out of St. Mary's in Stockton (Calif.) had a ton of honors after his junior season. He was named 1st Team Junior All State Team-Multi Purpose by CalHiSports/ESPN; 1st Team-Super Underclass All-State (WR) by; 1st Team All Nor-Cal (WR); 1st Team All Area (WR); 1st Team All League; Nike Camp Palo Alto, MVP (WR); 1st Team All Section (DB); 2nd Team All State (DB)by Max Preps and 3rd Team CalHisports All State Team and a wide receiver.

During his junior year his offensive stats were 67 receptions for 1,024 yards, 15.28 ypc, 73.1 ypg, 13 touchdowns. He returned seven kickoffs for 172 yards (24.57 avg), 20 punt returns for 282 yards (14.0 avg), 21 carries for 143 yards (6.81 avg). Plus he had five interceptions on defense.

With statistics like that, no wonder he is getting a lot of attention from the likes of Arizona, California, Florida State, Georgia, Nebraska, Miami and USC.

When we saw all all the statistics on Josh, we wondered, could Oregon also be in the mix? After his older brother Matt will long be remembered by Duck fans for a key interception against Michigan and two game changing picks that ensured a win over USC two seasons ago. So we decided we'd ask. Does Josh have any interest in Oregon?

"Yes, Joshua is interested in playing for Oregon," replied Roxane Harper, Josh's mom to our inquiry. "His brother played and graduated last year and I believe he may be a graduate assistant this year for Oregon."

Very interesting.

Roxane Harper went on to say that Josh is being recruited by several PAC 10 schools plus others and has decided to enjoy the process and look at all of his options.

Josh has not yet spoken to any of the Oregon coaches at this point by he sent his highlight video to them. Mrs. Harper also said that Josh is receiving letters not only from the Duck football program but also the basketball program as well. Obviously, Josh is very familiar with Oregon having been to Autzen Stadium a few times to see his older play.

He has been at Autzen Stadiuma few times to see Matthew play and it was a great experience for him.

On a further note, Roxane indicated her family is extremely proud of Matthew and happy that he is going back to Eugene.

"We don't want to put any pressure of Joshua about schools and want him to enjoy the recruiting process," wrote Roxane Harper in an email. "But wow, Matthew watching over Joshua would be a mothers dream."
