White Wishes To See Oregon

Four-star running back, Austin White, of Stevenson High School in Livonia, Michigan is one of the more highly touted running backs in the class of 2010. The Ducks appear to be interested and White is eager to hear more from the Oregon coaching staff.

Have you had any contact with Oregon?

"Yeah, they've been sending me a lot of mail lately...I haven't talked to any coach yet, but I'm going to try and call their football office and get a hold of their recruiting coach and get a relationship built with him."

What kind of mail have you been receiving from Oregon and how often?

"A lot about the facilities they have and I'm pretty sure I got an invite to one of their Junior Days, but I'm not really sure. I probably get mail like two or three times a week."

What would you say your overall interest in Oregon is at this point?

"I'm highly interested in Oregon, just like every other school right now. I really want to get to see as many places as I can and see where a good fit for me would be. I'd love to go check out their campus and get to know their coaches and their program a little bit more...get more in-depth into what they're about...but I'm very interested in Oregon."

Is there a particular thing that captures your interest regarding Oregon?

"They're a strong program first of all and I think that the style of offense they play can really promote me as a player and everything and I think it could be a good fit for me, so I'm pretty interested."

How would you describe yourself as a running back?

"I'd say I'm more speed than power, but I think that one thing that is good about me is that I'm versatile, in that, I just don't run the ball, but I think I'm pretty good at catching the ball and kick returning and punt returning. Hopefully I can get some [playing] time when I get to college and that's the thing I think I have going for me...I can play a lot of different positions."

Would you compare yourself to anyone at the collegiate or professional level?

"No. I really can't say that. Those guys have a made name in pro and college football and I'm just a junior in high school, so I'm not going to [compare myself]."

What are you looking for in a program?

"I've got to be comfortable where the campus is at and where I'm going to be living for four years. Also, I want to be somewhere the people care about you as a person and not just a player...I'm going to be living there for four years and growing as a person, so I'm going to need good people around me --kind of like parents almost-- keeping an eye out for me. Those are probably the two main things that I'm looking at."

Do you hold any offers at this point from other schools?

"I've got a few. I've got one from Michigan, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Purdue right now. Michigan, Michigan State, and Iowa are all written and Wisconsin and Purdue are verbal."

Do you have any leaders at this point?

"Not at this point. I think there is a lot for me to still see out there. I'm just going to keep all teams in the same perspective. I'm excited to see more and learn more about programs and certain coaches and things like that, so all the schools I would say [are even and] have the same interest level for me so far."

If Oregon were to offer, where would they rank in that group?

"They would definitely be high up on my list because I think that, first of all, they're a great program, and second of all, some schools have so many running backs and so many different players at the spot that I play that, it would be a harder road for me to take if I went there [compared] to most places...but I think I could do good things at Oregon, so they would definitely be high up on my list and I'd be thinking about them a lot more."

Are you planning on going to any camps later this spring or in the summer?

"Yeah, I'm definitely going to try and hit up a lot of the one-day camps for places like Oregon and a couple of places down south, that's probably going to be in the summer though because I've got school and basketball and stuff like that."

Are you planning on going to any Junior Days?

"[Probably] more of the Junior Days around Michigan because I've got a lot of basketball going on right now and it would be kind of hard for me to go on long trips and go to Junior Days, but I think I'm going to be be going to Northwestern's Junior Day on the 7th of March, so that's what I have planned for right now."
