Irwin Eying Oregon
Do you currently hold an offer from Oregon?
How often would you say you have contact with Oregon?
"I get a lot of mail from them. I've called them two or three times probably. Not a whole lot [of contact] but I get stuff from them regularly."
Which coach from Oregon have you been in contact with?
What would you say your overall interest in Oregon is?
"I don't know really. I don't really know a whole lot about their program or anything. I mean, I know they're pretty decent in the Pac-10 and I want to try and get up there and visit some time if possible."
Is there any that captures your interest at all when you think about Oregon?
"I know that they have top notch facilities and equipment and all that stuff of theirs is top of the line. They've been competing a lot the last couple of years and have really done well so I definitely have an interest in them."
How would you describe yourself as a player?
"Pretty balanced. [Our high school] pass the ball more than we run the ball -- probably about 70% pass -- so I'd say I'm probably better at pass protection, but pretty balanced. I can get off the ball and drive people back and at the same time I can kick back and pass block someone. So I'd say I'm pretty balanced."
Are most schools looking at you at tackle or guard?
"I'm not sure because I could still probably grow another inch or two, because I just turned 17. It just kind of depends where it is and how I fit in with their scheme."
Would you compare yourself to anyone at the collegiate or professional level?
"If I had to make comparisons just style wise, I'd probably go with Jake Long. He can kick back and shut someone down on the pass rush, but at the same time he can come out and go get 'em and drive them off the ball."
What are you looking for in a program?
"Well obviously, you know, a top program that's going to win football games and bowl games, and hopefully a national championship and conference championship. At the same time I want a program that has a good academic program for whatever I plan on studying. Really I just have a lot of research to do and try to find the place that's best for me."
Do you have any offers from other schools?
"Yeah I have nine total...Tulsa, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Arizona, Vanderbilt, Oregon, Alabama, Missouri, and Kansas." *Since Bronson and I spoke he acquired six more offers from the likes of Texas Tech, Ole Miss, Arizona State, Oklahoma State among others.
Do you have a top three or top five at this point?
"Not really. I still have a lot of stuff to look up. A lot of those [offers] I'm not really familiar with because I don't live close to them or haven't really been around them much growing up, so I'm going to talk to coaches, check out their websites, find their pros and cons and try to make the best for me."
Are you planning on going to any camps later this spring or in the summer?
"Yeah, probably a few. Probably try to make it to OU (University of Oklahoma) for one day, possibly Arkansas and Oklahoma State for one day, and then our team does a team camp at the University of Tulsa every year so I'll be down there for two or three days or however long that lasts. I'm not really sure though. I haven't really planned it all out yet, but I'm pretty sure I'll be at a couple of them."
Are you planning on going to any Junior Days?
"I've been to a few...Oklahoma State...Tulsa...I've been to Arkansas and I've been to Oklahoma."
