Gaines Now Officially a Duck

Wide receiver Tyrece Gaines is now officially an Oregon Duck according the University of Oregon Athletic Department's website. The University received Gaines Letter of Intent today

Tyrece Gaines, 6-2.5, 204 played for reigning JUCO national champion Butler County Community College in Kansas, and is a 4-star recruit according to Scout.

The signing of Gaines is one of the worst kept secrets in football. It has long been known that Gaines intended to go to Oregon but some issues had to be resolved before it could become official.

"We're extremely excited regarding the addition of Tyrece to our program and it signifies the culmination of a lot of hard work on a number of fronts," said current head coach and future athletic director Mike Bellotti on the Ducks' official web site. "The delay in the receipt of his letter can be attributed to our due diligence regarding the determination of his transfer status."

The exact reasons for the delay has not been spelled out by either Gaines or the University but obviously now Gaines is ready to move forward.

With the addition of Gaines, Oregon's recruiting class now includes 26 prospects. Two of that number (Zac Clark and Terrance Montgomery) have already enrolled in school for Winter Term. When Spring workouts begin on March 31, it is expected that one more new face, Bryson Littlejohn will be enrolled for Spring session and take part in spring drills.

"He will be a fine addition to our receiving corps and eases our concerns regarding our depth at that position with the loss of two senior starters," Bellotti said.
