Clay Came Close To Committing

After months of waiting with baited breath, Scripps Ranch High School's, Brennan Clay, of San Diego, California, finally received the offer he's been long anticipating. Oregon offered the ultra-versatile four-star running back on Thursday, and eDuck Sports caught up with Clay to find out where exactly the Ducks stand.

Do you currently hold an offer from Oregon?

"Yes sir, that is a true statement."

Which coaches have you been in contact from Oregon?

"I've been in contact with Coach (John) Neal about once a month."

What would you say your overall interest in Oregon is at this point?

"I'd say it's very high. Being a big city kid from San Diego, I feel like I just need to get away and I really like the small town feel at Oregon."

How would you describe yourself as a player?

"I can dig down and make that little chatter happen and make everyone get that fire in their eye and get ready to go, especially if that's the way I feel that's only way we can beat a team that week."

Would you compare yourself to anyone at the collegiate or professional level?

"It's kind of funny because, some analysts down here compare me to a running style of a Adrian Peterson and the hands out of the backfield as a Brian Westbrook. They say I mix both into a Reggie Bush, but I'm more powerful, per say, at this stage in my high school career going in to my senior year."

What are you looking for in a program?

"Well, when I'm looking at a college, I'm definitely looking at academics. How their players are graduating, their graduation rate, [what the] percentages of their players actually graduated compared to dropped out after their third of fourth year, so that plays a big part, academics was always first growing up...and then with the family issue, location would always be great, [playing] close to home...parents and family members can travel out to see you play. Then, with the coaching staff, you don't want to feel awkward with the coaching staff. You want to feel like family. That's the biggest thing. Growing up with Tate (Forcier), Tate stressed the importance on how Michigan always felt like a family, like a second family. He said you don't want to go anywhere where you don't feel comfortable and you don't feel like the football team is using should be using them for education."

What other offers do you currently hold from other schools?

"As of right now, I have offers from Stanford, Michigan, Wisconsin, Duke, UConn, Baylor, San Diego State."

Are there any offers that you feel could be coming through for you sometime soon?

"Oh yes sir. I'm pretty sure USC and Cal are going to pull the trigger pretty soon. I've been talking to each staff recently and they all say how much they appreciate what I can do on the field and what I'm doing in the classroom and what not, so all-around, [I'm] a good kid and they like me, hopefully, filling their roster for the 2010 class."

Is anyone leading at this point?

"My top five right now, in order, it would definitely go Oregon, USC, Cal, Stanford, and Michigan. Bar none. No matter if any of them offer or not, but for me, Oregon would definitely be number one right now."

Are you planning on attending any camps later this spring or in the summer?

"Yes sir, I'm actually going to attend the USC camp this summer and then hopefully I'll talk to [my] coach about the Oregon camp coming up in June. Hopefully we'll be able to make a trip up there. I think we might do the 7-on-7 and what not."

Are you planning on attending any Junior Days?

"I [went] to USC for their Junior Day and hopefuly, due to economic issues right now, I might be able to take a trip out to Oregon in May for their Junior Day and on the way home, stop by on an unofficial to Cal. So hopefully that works out. If not, oh well."
