Scroggins Searches For Oregon Offer

Lakewood, California quarterback, Jesse Scroggins, has had quite a carry over from a stellar junior campaign at Lakewood High School to the offseason camp and combine circuit, where he is beginning to make a name for himself as one of the west coast's top QB prospects. eDuck Sports sat down with Scroggins to talk recruiting and Oregon.

Do you currently hold an offer from Oregon?

"No I don't."

Have you been in contact with any of the Oregon coaches?

"Through e-mailing, but not really through the phone."

Which coach have you been e-mailing with?

"I think it was the DB coach (Defensive backs coach John Neal)...I'm not sure but I think it was because me and my other teammates also get e-mails from him."

What is your overall interest in Oregon?

"Overall interest is high. I like Oregon because of the spread offense, their fast-paced, and they also throw the ball a good percentage of the time."

How would you describe yourself as a quarterback?

"Pass first, run second."

Do you prefer to play in an offense that is predominantly pass or one that is more balanced?

"I think every team needs a good portion passing, [but] I'm a team player. I'm not going to beg the coach to throw the ball every play."

Would you compare yourself to anyone at the collegiate or professional level at all?

"I don't think I would compare myself to anybody. I would like to have assets of people like, the mind of a Peyton Manning/Tom Brady and the speed of Vince Young, you know, something like that."

What are you looking for in a program?

"Offensive coordinator who would like to take a team to a national championship. A guy [receiver] who could catch my 7-yard passing, because I throw heat, I throw the ball hard, so somebody who doesn't cry or says, "Coach, he throws the ball too hard!" I need people who can play that are there for the team and who wants it...and people who are fast, because I have a quick release, that's my main asset. I'm also looking for a team that will show me an opportunity. I mean a real opportunity, because some schools say "Sure, you'll start" but I'm looking for a team that seems confident in me and that likes me a lot."

Would you prefer to play immediately or are you willing to redshirt?

"Either, or, to me. First year [playing], I'm a quick learner, but if I got to sit out a year, I'm going to progress. Sitting out is great, but playing your first year is good too."

Do you currently hold offers from any other schools?

"I have [official offers from] San Diego State, SMU, Washington, Washington State, Tennessee, Nebraska, Arizona, and Arizona State."

If Oregon were to offer, where would they stand among some of the team you're considering?

"To me, all teams are equal as of right now, because I want to wait to take my visits and learn more about the programs. I mean I like Oregon a lot, so they probably stand higher but I'm not sure."

So would that mean that nobody is really leading?

"Nobody is really leading."

Have you been to or are you planning on attending any camps later this spring or in the summer?

"I'm not sure yet. I think we are, but I'm not positive...the USC camp, I think, and maybe Arizona or one of those. I'm not sure."

Are you planning on going to any Junior Days?

"My dad takes care of that and tells me that we have a couple but he's not sure. I'm not even aware of it, but yeah I have invites."
