Cathedral Catholic Connection A Major Factor

Familiarity with a program can be vital throughout the recruiting process. For San Diego (CA) Cathedral Catholic three-star offensive lineman, Alex Crosthwaite, it could play a major role in where he decides to attend college. eDuck Sports sat down with Crosthwaite to discuss recruiting and his familiarity with the Oregon program.

Do you currently hold an offer from Oregon?

"No, I don't."

Have you had any contact at all with Oregon?

"Yeah, I've had phone calls and stuff and Coach [Steve] Greatwood, the O-line coach, has come down and watched me practice."

How often are you in contact with Coach Greatwood and some of the other Oregon coaches?

"Probably once every three weeks or so."

Have the coaches talked at all to you about a potential offer possibly coming through?

"Yeah, they talk about it. They want me to come up to the camp and stuff, so I might go do that."

What would you say your overall interest in Oregon is?

"It's real high. Real high. It's my top choice, or one of my top choices, is Oregon because my teammate Everett Benyard is going there so it would be fun to play with him another four years."

Is Everett's commitment to Oregon the main thing you like about the program?

"Well yeah, that's probably the top thing, but I also have major factors like I like Coach Greatwood and I like the school, the school is beautiful, so that's another big thing."

Have you visited Eugene before?

"No, I haven't been up there, but I've been watching -- on the new website -- the videos."

How would you describe yourself as a player?

"I have really good footwork, that's my first thing and the other big thing for me is just being a nasty player, just trying to get at it and have a big heart for the game. The things that I've got to improve on is lower body strength and flexibility and movement."

Would you compare yourself to anyone at the collegiate or professional level?

"No, not really. I don't watch the linemen when I'm watching the games (laughs)."

What are you looking for in a program?

"My top two things are a good O-line coach -- like the best O-line coach -- and academics."

Do you have any idea what you might want to study when you get to school?

"Yeah. Business Administration."

Do you hold any offers from other schools at this point?

"I got 14 offers...Colorado, Colorado State, Washington State, San Diego State, Arizona, Arizona State, Utah, Nebraska, Minnesota, California...that's 10 right? That's all I can name off the top of my head."

Do you have any favorites?

"No, I don't have a tops. I don't have like a top five, but like Oregon is in my tops, but there's not like an actual list...they're high up there."

Have you been to any camps this spring, or are you planning on heading to any camps this summer?

"Yeah I went to the Nike camp in Stanford and I went to the FBU camp in USC and I just went today to UCLA's camp and I'm planning on going to the USC one and I'm planning on going to the Stanford one and the Oregon one."

Have you taken any unofficial visits yet or are you planning on going on any unofficial visits?

"Yeah I went to USC and Stanford's unofficial and I was going to go to UCLA's and Oregon's, but things came up so I couldn't go to those two."
