Burnett's Been Anticipating An Oregon Offer

The state of California is fertile ground for terrific linebacker talent in 2010 and Culver City Senior High (CA) linebacker, Victor Burnett is among the best. Entering his senior season, Burnett has heard from some of the biggest schools from across the country, though there's one he's been waiting to hear more from.

Do you currently hold an offer from Oregon?

"No. Not yet."

Have you had any contact with any coaches from Oregon?

"Yeah, yeah. I've been receiving a lot letters from Oregon and I know that [linebackers] Coach [Don] Pellum has been to two or three of my games."

So has Coach Pellum been the guy you've been in contact with the most?

"Yeah, he's the guy who recruits my area."

When was the last time you guys spoke?

"He actually came to my school during strength season...that was probably in, I'd say, February."

What would you say your overall interest in Oregon is?

"Oh I have a very high interest in Oregon! Really, I just haven't got the offer yet...I've been loving Oregon since I was in 7th grade. That was always one of my -- if I were to ever get an offer -- they've always been one of my top schools. I just haven't heard too much from them."

What is it that has you interested in Oregon?

"Just the location stands out. It just seems like a very peaceful environment around Oregon. And the facilities and stuff like that is top notch and it's a great place to play football because they are on the uprise with their program and what not."

How would you describe yourself as a player?

"I would describe myself as a hard working player, a smart player, a sideline to sideline player, and just one that can really adapt to any type of system that I play in."

Would you compare yourself to anyone at the collegiate or professional level?

"No, not really. I mean, it's kind of like I have my own type of style of play. I have a real nose for the ball, so any linebacker at the collegiate level or NFL level that's like that, then I'd say I compare myself to that type of person."

What are you looking for in a program?

"Some big decision making factors for me are like the school environment, a team that's going to compete, a good coaching staff, and I want a chance to compete."

What offers do you currently hold? Do you have a favorites list?

"I don't have any tops right now, just because I'm doing my research on my own and finding out what I like and what I don't like about certain schools, because every recruiting coach is going to tell you their positive things, so I'm just going through and finding out which schools I will eventually put in my top...Oklahoma, Tennessee, West Virginia, University of Washington, Washington State, University of Arizona, Arizona State...those are probably the schools that are recruiting me the hardest [along with] Cal."

Have you taken any unofficial visits? Have you thought about where you might take official visits?

"I don't have any [official] visits planned out yet. The unofficial visits I've taken have just been to local schools like UCLA and USC and I've been to San Diego State."

If Oregon were to come through with an offer, would they be in the running possibly for an official visit?

"Oh definitely, definitely."
