Oregon Climbing For Hill

Oregon defensive backs coach, John Neal, knows a quality defensive back when he sees one. People take further notice when the coach starts comparing certain prospects to current Duck corner, Walter Thurmond. Ventura (CA) St. Bonaventure cornerback, Troy Hill, is the player drawing these lofty comparisons and could be a big time target for the Ducks in 2010.

Do you currently hold an offer from Oregon?

"Yeah, I do."

When did you receive that offer?

"Maybe sometime in May, I think."

What kind of contact have you had with Oregon since the recruiting process began?

"I got off the phone with Coach [John] Neal yesterday actually. We had a long conversation for probably like 30 minutes."

How often would you say you guys are in touch?

"We e-mail back and forth almost everyday. I haven't called him in a while, but that's because I haven't been talking on my phone in a while."

What have your conversations with Coach Neal been like?

"He's been telling me that I can come in and play early and that I'll be similar to Walter Thurmond and that [the opportunity] will always be there to compete. When he gave me the offer, he came up to my school and when he came up to my school, he asked me a lot of questions and he said a lot of his players couldn't even answer some of those questions [he was asking] and then he just gave me the offer, because he said I was a smart player."

What would you say your overall interest in Oregon is?

"Oregon is in my top right now. They're in my top three."

What is your top three?

"Right now it's Washington, Oregon, and Arizona."

What is it that has you so interested in Oregon?

"Because they're always at the top and they produce good DB's. They're rated pretty high and they always come out and compete. I'm going to go to their campus and I've heard their campus is really nice and things like that. I [also] want to major in business and if I do that, I have a chance to work for Nike or something like that."

Have you scheduled an official visit to Oregon yet?

"I was talking to him (Coach Neal) about my official and then he said that we got to set it up so it can work around my schedule. We (St. Bonaventure) have an early game -- play Jordan -- so I'm going to try and get up there after that game or sometime whenever I can."

As far as other official visits go, have you scheduled any?

"Not yet, but I know I'm going to take one of my officials to Arizona too. Those are the only two that I know I'm going to take for sure right now."

How would you describe yourself as a player?

"I would say I'm a smart player and then I'd say I'm physical...I'm a great cover corner too and I can come up help in support of the run."

Would you compare yourself to anyone at the collegiate or professional level?

"Actually, I try to play more like Champ Bailey than anything, because he's a great cover corner and he can come up and tackle, so I try to play like him."

What are you looking for in a program?

"First of all, academics and then it'll probably be the depth chart on the football side. I'm always willing to come in and compete -- you're always going to have to come in and compete -- but it's going to my chance and my opportunity to come in and play. The better chance that I can play is the better shot a school's got with me, so the more opportunity, the better."

What are the offers you have from other schools?

"I have Boise State, Idaho State, Washington, Arizona, Washington State, Utah State, Marshall...there's a couple others too, but I can't really think of them right now."

Is there anyone that you're looking to hear from that hasn't offered yet?

"Yeah. I'm wanting to hear from Oklahoma and really who ever is interested in me is who I'm willing to hear from."

Have you taken any unofficial visits anywhere?

"I took an unofficial to UCLA and USC -- I went to their Junior Day -- and then I went to Washington for their spring game and that was the only one, then I got plans to go to Arizona for an unofficial and Oregon for an unofficial before I take my officials...I'm taking another unofficial to Washington when they play LSU."
