Notes on practice: 8-14-09

The Oregon Ducks practiced some situational scenarios to close out the first full week of practice. A scrimmage is scheduled for tomorrow at 2:15 p.m., with warm ups starting 15 minutes earlier. The scrimmage is open to the public and will be held inside Autzen Stadium.

1. Nathan Costa looked very sharp today. He was efficient getting the ball to Nick Cole, David Paulson and the running backs out of the backfield.

2. Paulson was perhaps the most consistent receiver for the Ducks. He's at his best working the middle of the field exploiting seams and holes in the defense. He has been very solid over the last few practices.

3. Oregon did some field goal kicking today and Chip Kelly was pleased with Morgan Flint's consistency and leg strength. Flint's range for field goals appears to have been extended in the off-season.

4. At the end of practice the team simulated an overtime period. Costa led the Green team down the field in four plays with Andre Crenshaw doing the majority of the rushing. He gained big yards on three touches, including what turned out to be the game-winning touchdown from 3-yards out. Jeremiah Masoli led the white team, but their bid to tie was spoiled when a Masoli-pass ricocheted off a receiver and into the hands of Casey Matthews.
