Ducks Look to Change WSU Game Kickoff Time

EUGENE – The University of Oregon has announced that its Oct. 3 home football game vs. Washington State will be moved to a 6:15 p.m. start to accommodate an Oregon Sports Network telecast should the game not be chosen for one of two television windows under the Pacific-10 Conference TV agreement with ABC/ESPN or Fox Sports Net.

The final determination will not be made until at least Monday, Sept. 21, when ABC will notify the Pac-10 which of three remaining conference games it chooses to televise at 12:30 p.m. (PDT). The network already has chosen to televise USC at California at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, but has another television window unfilled at 12:30 p.m.

In addition to the Washington State at Oregon game, Oregon State plays at Arizona State and Stanford hosts UCLA on Oct. 3.

After ABC makes a second selection, the Versus Network, through its agreement with FSN, will choose to televise a Pac-10 game at 4 p.m.

Under the Pac-10 television agreement, networks must make their selections of which games to televise 12 days in advance of the date games are played unless they choose to invoke a six-day selection.

If the Oregon-Washington State game is not chosen as one of the two televised games under the Pac-10 agreement, the game would have to be moved to a later start if it were to be televised on a institutional basis so as to not to be in direct conflict with one of the two unfilled conference television windows.

"We wanted to alert Oregon and Washington State fans of this possibility early to allow them ample time to make alternative arrangements should this option become a reality," Oregon Athletics Director Mike Bellotti said. "We have been fortunate to have locked in accurate kickoff times in advance for five of the Ducks' seven home games this year due to television commitments, and wanted to distribute this possibility as soon as possible to minimize any inconveniences."

Oregon's only other home football game that does not have a set start time in place yet would be the Nov. 14 contest against Arizona State.

Saturday's home game against Utah will start at 12:30 a.m., as will the Ducks' Sept. 26 conference opener vs. California in Autzen Stadium, followed by the Oct. 31 USC game at 5 p.m., and the Dec. 3 intrastate contest against Oregon State at 6 p.m..
