Blount Returning?

The University of Oregon issued a media advisory on Thursday night indicating that Head Coach Chip Kelly would address media on Friday to discuss elements of his plan that has been in place for running back LeGarrette Blount that may include a potential reinstatement prior to the conclusion of the 2009 season.

Blount was suspended for the season as a result of an incident following the conclusion to Oregon's opening loss at Boise State on Sept. 3rd.

Blount had been the the starting running back for the Ducks and many feel he is a sure pick in next spring's NFL draft.

As a result of the suspension Blount has contributed to the team effort by working on the scout team during practices.

On Thursday Blount's apology to the student of the University of Oregon appeared in the Daily Emerald, Oregon's student newspaper. In the letter to the editor Blount said he was sorry for his actions and hoped he would have a second chance, not as a player but as student at the institution.

Kelly has steadfastly maintained that there would be no consideration of Blount being reinstated.

There have been moves by fans to reinstate Blount. On Facebook, a group calling itself "Reinstate LeGarrette Blount to the Ducks" has over 300 members and has campaigned that the season-long suspension was too severe considering the scale of the incident. Many internet posters on have felt a suspension of four to five games was more appropriate.

It is unknown if fan pressure has had any effect on Blount's status.
