"The family atmosphere is what I wanted to be part of," Ryan Gilliam told eDuck.com today. Gilliam said he sent his letter of intent (LOI) to the Oregon coaching staff this morning and looked at his decision as a stepping stone in his maturation process. Gilliam, 5-10, 175, Lincoln High School (Tallahassee, Fl) is a four-star rated cornerback and is ranked No. 9 nationally at his position.
The decision to head to the opposite side of the country was not easy. Florida State is located in Gilliam's hometown and for Ryan leaving the state to go across country is a big step in his life.
"I live two miles away from the (FSU) stadium," remarked Gilliam. "I heard the cheers of crowd on every touchdown."
Though Florida State made a major effort to convince Ryan to become a Seminole, the determining factor for Ryan came down to people. It was the Oregon family atmosphere from the head coach to all the players that caused the Florida blue-chipper to decide to become a Duck.
