Heimuli Discusses Recent Oregon In-Home

This past Monday, 4-star defensive tackle Ricky Heimuli from Salt Lake City (UT) Brighton hosted Oregon head coach Chip Kelly and four other coaches at his home in Utah. With signing day nearing, Heimuli was kind enough to talk to eDuck Sports about his most recent talks with the Oregon coaching staff.

Talk about your experience at the U.S. Army All-American game in San Antonio earlier this month. "It was fun. I enjoyed myself a lot with the players on and off the field, so it was way fun."

Did you get a chance to talk to any of the other players there that were or are considering Oregon?

"We really didn't just talk about football, it was just the game actually, not the recruiting process because we're kind of getting sick of it."

Your in-home visit with Oregon was this past Monday. Talk about the overall experience with having the coaches over.

"It was good. They had a lot of good things to say. They even had some presentations they showed us on the academic center and just a little five minute highlight of the season."

Did they discuss anything in particular about aspects of the program or anything like that?

"No. Coach (Chip) Kelly said he was very supportive of me going on my mission and that impressed my parents a lot."

Was it just Coach Kelly and Coach (Jerry) Azzinaro who visited you?

"It was actually five coaches. It was Kelly, Azzinaro, (Don) Pellum, (Nick) Aliotti, and (John) Neal."

What was it like having your family get an opportunity to sit down and have some quality one-on-one time with the coaches?

"It went pretty good. My parents heard what they wanted to hear from the coaches, so they were very impressed with that."

What kinds of questions did your family have for the coaches?

"My dad's main question was about the mission, if I was able to go still and they said 'yeah'."

Are you planning on taking your mission upon graduating from high school or are you going to wait a bit?

"I might be going after my freshman season."

Could you rate the overall visit on a 1 to 10 scale?

"It would be about an 8 or 9."

Have you narrowed down your list of schools yet?

"Kind of...yeah. Just some of the schools I've visited like UCLA, Oregon, Utah, and then I'm planning on heading up to Washington this weekend so we'll see how that goes."

Is your visit to Washington your final visit?

Do you have any more in-home visits planned between now and signing day?

"Just Utah will be coming over to my house tomorrow night."

As of now, is your plan to announce on signing day?
