Boehm Has High Interest In Oregon

As one of California's top prep signal callers for the Class of 2011, San Jose (CA) Archbishop Mitty quarterback Kyle Boehm (pronounced "Beam") has been receiving a good deal of attention from inquiring programs all over the country. eDuck Sports caught up with Boehm recently to get the latest on recruiting and his interest level on the football program at the University of Oregon.

Do you currently have an offer from Oregon?

"No I don't."

Have you had any contact with Oregon?

"You know, I've been getting not too much really. I haven't really heard from them at all that much. I did get a letter from them last week, a questionnaire, but not anything too big."

How often do you receive mail from Oregon?

"Not very much at all. I was pretty surprised because I got a letter from them earlier last week and I was surprised because I don't really ever receive any mail from them, so I was pretty surprised. It's one of my favorite schools, so I was surprised to hear from them. I was glad that they at least sent me something."

What would you say your overall interest in Oregon is at this point?

"I love the school. I just love everything about them. I grew up there basically. I go up there every year for Christmas with my family and everything, so I'm around that area and the football-like atmosphere up there all the time. I went to the Elite 11 Camp/Nike Football Training Camp up there last year, so I got to play in the stadium and see the indoor facilities and all that kind of stuff. In the summer going in to my sophomore year, I did a whole week kind of camp where I stayed in the dorms and everything and I got the Sophomore MVP. I got to meet some of the coaches, which was really cool, so as far as my interest it's pretty high right now. I'm just looking forward to seeing what happens."

Where do your relatives live in Oregon?

"They live in Eugene."

What is it about the program specifically that has you so interested?

"I just love it. I just love the facilities. The facilities are great. I went on an unofficial (visit) there last year so I got to see some of the facilities and things like that and just saw how everything worked and that's what I really loved. They are very top-notch facilities and a very good program. The coaches are great and I got to talk to some of the coaches...I just really like it up there."

How would you describe yourself as a player?

"I'm pretty laid-back in person. I'm pretty quiet and shy, but then when it comes to being on the field I seem to change. I want to lead by example, so I want to push myself in order to make my teammates better and I just give 110% every single time and give it my all."

Would you compare yourself to anyone at the collegiate or professional level?

"People have kind of thought that I look like and play like Tim Tebow. I'm 6'3'' 215 lbs. so I guess we're kind of similar -- even though he's like 240 or something like that. But just with our offense and the way that he runs and the way that our offense is built, I just kind of feel like I resemble him the most."

What are you looking for in a program?

"Well the first thing is education. I want to go to a place where I know that I can get a great education because that's the first thing on my list. And also, I just want to feel comfortable there. I want to go to a place where I feel like I belong. I don't want to go to a place where I feel out of place or awkward. I want to go to a place where I feel comfortable and fit in right away. I just want to have a good relationship with the coaches and the other players. Also depth chart. I want to know what kind of competition will be there before I go there."

What official offers do you currently hold from other schools?

"I have six right now. I have Colorado State, San Jose State, Wyoming, Arizona State, Cal, and Washington."

Have you been hearing a lot from any other schools who haven't offered yet?

"Yeah, I'm hearing a lot from Texas Tech. I've been getting letters from lots of schools mostly in the Pac-10. I've been hearing a lot from Kansas, Boise State, Northwestern...there's kind of a lot. I can't really name all of them but there are a lot of schools out there that have shown interest."

If Oregon were to extend an offer, where would they rank amongst the teams that you're considering?

"I don't really want to list my top three right now, but they would definitely be pretty high up on my list...they would definitely be one of those top schools that I would consider going to."

Are you planning on going to any camps this spring or later in the summer?

"Yeah, for sure. I went to a bunch of camps last year. I kind of planning on going to the same ones and maybe a few more, but I haven't really sat down with my dad yet and really figured out my schedule and what I really want to do. I do plan on getting out there and just showing myself as much as I can."

Have you set up or attended any Junior Days yet?

"I have not been on a Junior Day yet, but I did have an unofficial at Cal a couple of weeks ago and I do plan on going up to Washington pretty soon to make a visit up there as an unofficial."
