Jefferson's Mitchell Anticipates Oregon Offer

Heralded as one of the top overall players in the state of Oregon for 2011, Portland (OR) Jefferson offensive lineman Alex Mitchell is primed and ready to show the nation just how good he is. After impressing at the U.S. Army All-American combine earlier this year, Mitchell is eager to see what kind of attention will come his way.

Do you currently have an offer from Oregon?

"I don't have a guarantee. I have a guarantee if my grades are good by summer, then the offer is there. But if my grades aren't there, I won't have the offer. I'm on the track to having my grades better before summer time. I'm hunkering down and I'm gonna get it for sure."

Have you been in contact with any of the coaches from Oregon?

"(Steve) Greatwood.

How often are you in contact with the Oregon coaches?

"Not very often. I think I met him back during one of their camps down there. At the Nike one or something. I don't remember."

What is your overall interest in Oregon?

"I would love to go to Oregon, but I want to wait out to see what I get and if I get any offers from one of my number one schools or something like that. I don't want to commit to anybody right now. I don't want anybody to think that I'm not interested in them or that I just want to stay in Oregon, because I'm open to all options."

What are the other schools that you'd like to hear more from?

"I would love to go to like UCLA or USC. USC is probably my number one. I think I caught their eye down there in Texas and I know how they need some offensive linemen."

What has you interested in possibly coming to Oregon?

"I always liked going to the Civil War games. I've seen some of those and always watched them. I just like Oregon. I like their facilities. Their facilities are really nice. I think Saturday (April 3) I go to their Junior Day and take a tour of their facilities and everything."

How would you go about describing yourself as a player?

"On the field I'm aggressive. I'm a leader on the field (too); on the line."

Would you compare yourself to anyone at the collegiate or professional level?

"I don't try to model my game after anybody. I don't really look up to anybody. The only person maybe really I look up to who plays guard is my uncle (Edgar Mitchell) and that's who taught me a lot of stuff about what I know. Because he played for Colorado."

Are most schools looking at you along the offensive or defensive line?

"Like Oregon State, they're recruiting me both for offensive guard and offensive tackle."

Where does Oregon see you?

"Offensive guard."

What are you looking for in a program?

"Probably what I want to study. I want to do business, so I want to go to a really good business school. Oregon has a really, really good business school and so does some of the California schools. When I take my five visits, that's what I want to see at the school that I want to go to."

Do you currently hold any offers from other schools?

"Besides Oregon State, I don't yet."

Is there anyone out there that you think might be close to offering?

"I think a lot of schools are holding off to the summer to offer me because they want to see me out more and they want to know if my grades are going to be legit. So I think that's a big factor."

You said USC was a school you'd strongly consider if they offered you. Do you have a top list of schools or anything like that at this point?

"I don't...I couldn't do it off the top of my head right now."

Have you been to any camps, or are you planning on going to any camps later this spring or in the summer?

"I'm going to the Nike Invitational in June...I think it's June 30 or something like that...I think I'm going to go to the Barton camps and that's pretty much it for the spring. In the summer I'm going to a lot of camps. For sure is probably going to be the USC camp, I'm going to try to make it back over to Hawaii again for either the All-Poly camp or the Just Win (camp), and then I think I'm gonna go to the Oregon and Oregon State (camps)."

Have you been to any Junior Days or are you planning on attending any Junior Days?

"Oregon's is Saturday the 3rd...I've been to the Oregon State Junior Day already."

Have you taken any unofficial visits yet or are you planning on taking any unofficial visits?

"No I haven't. I've seen other schools through camps, but I haven't seen any schools (unofficially)."
