Oregon "One Of The Top Schools" For Daniels

As the son of current NFL player, Phillip Daniels, Vernon Hills (IL) 4-star wide receiver DaVaris Daniels is used to moving around. Meaning, that come February 2011, distance won't necessarily factor in to his decision as to where he will attend college. Daniels is one of the most highly sought after receivers in the country and has been hearing from folks across the country...including Oregon.

Do you currently have an offer from Oregon?

"No, I don't have one from Oregon. A guy came to school this week and wanted to offer but usually they do it face-to-face or whatever...whenever you get out on campus, so I guess if they'd make an offer that's when they'd do it."

Which coach from Oregon was the one who visited you?

"It was Coach (Scott) Frost."

How much contact have you had with Coach Frost and Oregon since the recruiting process started for you?

"Me and Coach Frost have been talking for awhile. When we talk it's usually not too much football."

Has he mentioned anything about trying to get you out for a visit?

"Yeah he's talked about coming out this summer and seeing what was up. There's a possibility I can make it out there in June, but we still have to see how everything goes."

What is your overall interest in Oregon?

"I like them. I like Oregon. I used to actually live out that way in Seattle so I'm used to rain and what not. But Oregon has always been a place of interest for me just because growing up I used to love the jerseys, but I've learned a lot more about the program ever since. It's always been one of the top schools in my mind."

Is there anything in particular about the program that stands out to you?

"I don't really know too much about the rest of the coaching staff other than what Coach Frost has been telling me a whole bunch about. He's just told me how the team's bond and how the people are and everything over there. I mean you won't be able to succeed unless you put yourself around the right kind of people and it sounds like that's what they have going on over there."

How would you describe yourself as a player?

"I'm a speedy guy, I like to use my size to my advantage -- I play basketball so I know how to go up and get it."

Would you compare yourself to anyone at the collegiate or professional level?

"I'd say, at the college level, I really like A.J. Green. He has a lot of size. I mean he's a couple inches taller than me, but we have pretty much the same frame and are pretty much the same player. And then, in the NFL, I'd say I'm more like a Reggie Wayne type."

What are you looking for in a program?

"I'd say first off, I'd have to be comfortable there. Whenever I take my visit up to that place, I want to make sure it's a place that I know I can get along with the people and everybody is on the same page. I'd say the coaching staff -- I want an energetic coaching staff -- I don't think I could see myself playing for Nick Saban who's just all work all the time...I like to have fun. Just anywhere where I can make plays early."

Is distance a factor for you?

"I'm open to going anywhere. I mean I've been everywhere throughout my life, so that's fine."

Have you given any thought as to what you might want to study when you get to college?

"Not really. I'll probably start thinking about that a little bit later."

What offers do you hold from other schools at this point?

"I've got 13. I got Miami, Illinois, Nebraska, Iowa, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Cincinnati, Michigan, Purdue, Oklahoma, Memphis, Arkansas...I think there's some others?"

Do you have any schools that are leading for you at this point?

"I got a top four, but it's not really set in stone yet. I'm not looking to make a decision anytime soon."

What would your top four be right now?

"I'd say Notre Dame, Miami, Oklahoma, Illinois...that's probably my tops right now. I'd have Iowa as the fifth."

As far as Junior Days and unofficial visits go, where have you been and where do you plan to go?

"I went to Junior Days at Iowa and Notre Dame. I went to Notre Dame's spring game and I'm making a visit out to Oklahoma this summer and maybe down to Miami."
